January 2009

Last contest period's winner received KIDNAPPED by Dee Henderson.

Roberta Harwell

Evidence of Murder by Jill Elizabeth Nelson

Rating: 5 Stars

This is my first review, so I hope this sounds good to the fellow readers out there. This book is easy to read, plus suspenseful, spiritual and a love story all rolled into one. I am glad I took the opportunity to read this book. I would recommend this book to all.

Boo Hiss by Rene Gutteridge

Rating: 4 Stars

Although BOO HISS works as a stand-alone novel, I highly recommend reading the first two books in the series first --- there is a lot of fun background information that you won't want to miss. The towns people from Skary are quite the quirky, fun and likable characters. They will keep you laughing and shaking your head, sometimes both at the same time. Ms. Gutteridge's books are delightful and light-hearted reads. I hope she continues with many more stories in this series.

Dark Pursuit by Brandilyn Collins

Rating: 4 Stars

This is the first novel by Brandilyn Collins that I have read and I was instantly taken in by the suspense and intensity of this story. A very fast-paced, nail-biting read with a shocking surprise that I didn't see coming. I'm hooked! And, I look forward to reading more of Ms. Collin's books in the future.

First Light by Bodie Thoene and Brock Thoene

Rating: 5 Stars

The entire AD Chronicles series was good, but this was excellent! It made me want to learn more about the Jewish Faith and we gentiles miss so much by not following some of their traditions.

The Best of Evil: An Aramis Black Mystery by Eric Wilson

Rating: 5 Stars

This is a book for either men or women. It takes place in Nashville, Tenn. There is music, history and mystery. This, as well as the second book in the series, would make a great movie.

Ann

Sunset by Karen Kingsbury

Rating: 5 Stars

Great read, but sad that it is the last of the Baxter series. Good job of wrapping up all the story lines.

Where the River Ends by Charles Martin

Rating: 4 Stars

Charles Martin tells a good story, but this is not a Christian novel. It is a super secular novel. As always he does an excellent job grabbing your attention. My question to him, "Are you going secular with your fiction or is this just a one time thing?"

I much enjoy Christian authors writing Christian fiction. Would love to read other people's thoughts on this book.

Hadassah: One Night with the King by Tommy Tenney and Mark Andrew Olson

Rating: 5 Stars

The story of Queen Esther told in first person. Very compelling!

Albook

Season of Grace by Linda Goodnight

Rating: 5 Stars

Great example of loving someone to Christ.

One Perfect Day by Lauraine Snelling

Rating: 4 Stars

Keep your tissues handy for this one.
This is a story about two families who are about to face extreme heartache and joy. I just wish the story hadn't ended so soon.

AP

Every Now and Then by Karen Kingsbury

Rating: 3 Stars

This novel is about a young man whose father, a NYC firefighter, dies on 9/11, and struggles to put that day behind him. It's predictable, but a good, quick read.

Jayne

Twilight Children by Torey Hayden

Rating: 5 Stars

I love all of her books and working in daycare find I can learn many things from her books. She is a dedicated teacher and has helped many children.

Donna Tanner

The Shack by William P. Young

Rating: 5 Stars

Five stars so far. I'm only 1/3 of the way through, but I can't see *why* I would change the rating on this novel!

Shannon Leonetti

Widows of Eastwich by John Updike

Rating: 5 Stars

I hated THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK (both the movie and the book) but this story of three old women who take their age and attitude in stride was wonderful!
