Boo Humbug by Rene Gutteridge

Rating: 4 Stars

If you haven't read the first three books in the Boo series, I highly recommend doing so before reading this holiday-themed conclusion, just so you have a better idea of the characters and their previous escapades. I have come to love the citizens of Skary, Indiana and I'm going to miss them. This book is a fun Christmas tale filled with laughter, tears and a great message.

Something to Sing About by C. C. Payne

Rating: 5 Stars

Jamie Jo won't go outside without Mama the Bee Slayer and her lime-green flyswatter to ward off the bees that are looking to sting Jamie Jo and make her die! A delightful cast of characters and wonderful word pictures. This first novel is very well done and I would recommend it for anyone age 10-90! It is geared for the middlers, but fun for all.

Boo Who by Rene Gutteridge

Rating: 3 Stars

This second book in the Boo series is a fun and light-hearted read. Even though you don't have to read the first book, it does help with the background and quirky character development. The zany residents of Skary are a hoot.

Raid

Seasons by Rita Antoinette Borg

Rating: 5 Stars

Good short stories. They're all different but they relate to each other.

Jenny Edwards

Melequest by Miles Oxlaide

Rating: 4 Stars

Interesting plot depicting the selection and journey of the Magi.

Cathey (dbinpgh@aol.com)

Cedar Cove Christmas by Debbie Macomber

Rating: 4 Stars

Great story and an easy read for the holiday season!

Laura

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Rating: 5 Stars

A friend of mine recommended Jane Austen's books to me... I am so glad I listened to her! At first they seem a little daunting in regards to how they are written, but once used to it, they're excellent! I will be reading MANSFIELD PARK next :).

Pam

A Tale of Two Sons by James McArthur

Rating: 4 Stars

Very good.

Betty

Daring Chloe by Laura Jensen Walker

Rating: 3 Stars

This book is about a group of gals who go on a tour of Paris. They have interesting adventures along the way and have a good time, getting to know each other better along the way.

The book was well-written but it is "chik-lit", which I do not enjoy. To me it was a waste of my time.

Susan Richmond

Eat This Book by Eugene Peterson

Rating: 5 Stars

This is a compelling explanation of why reading Scripture is more than accumulating knowledge. It is really an organic process of spiritual formation where what we take in is worked out in our lives.

Barbara Carlton (bcarlton567@aol.com)

The Face by Angela Hunt

Rating: 5 Stars

This is an excellent book that I can hardly put down. I will certainly be looking for another book written by this author after I'm finished reading this one.

Where the River Ends by Charles Martin

Rating: 5 Stars

I touching book about a man whose wife has breast cancer.

Paper Bag Christmas by Kevin Alan Milne

Rating: 5 Stars

I picked this book up the other day at my local book store. It was a quick read but it has stayed with me for days. I found myself crying and laughing out loud as I read. A very touching book about what the true gifts of Christmas are. May we all receive "everything we never wanted" this year and every year.

Yada Yada Prayer Group Gets Decked Out by Neta Jackson

Rating: 5 Stars

This 7th (and the last) of the Yada Yada Prayer Group series brings the lives of approximately 12 women together, to an end, and to a beginning, all at the same time. It very real, and very preachy, but fabulous. All of the Yada Yada books are wonderful. I will miss the Ladies.

The Elevator by Angela Hunt

Rating: 5 Stars

Three women are tied together by one man --- sound like real life? Mrs. Hunt threw some surprises in there. Every woman should read this book!

Trouble in Paradise by Robin Lee Hatcher

Rating: 4 Stars

Makes me want to be a cowgirl!

Vanish by Tom Pawlik

Rating: 1 Stars

My book club at church read this. We anticipated a great read since it won a Jerry Jenkins First Novel Award. None of liked this book. We wondered how it qualified as Christian fiction. It read more like a Stephen King novel. It held none of God's redemption. We kept waiting for it to get better but it never did. It was even doctrinally wrong.

Pam

A Proper Pursuit by Lynn Austin

Rating: 5 Stars

A young woman in 1893 looks for a husband, but along the way she discovers many things about herself and the new opportunities becoming available to women. She wonders if she can do more than just be a proper lady. It is told in first person with liberal dashes of humor.

James Keith

Divine Justice by David Baldacci

Rating: 5 Stars

David Baldacci's third story of the Camel Club brings action and redemption.

Christ The Lord: Road To Cana by Anne Rice

Rating: 5 Stars

Rice's series chronicling Christ's life is one of the best things I've read. Her writing is tight and evocative. The characters leap to life and seem to live in one's own home. Coupled with Rice's personal epiphany, I can recommend this series knowing God still moves.

Grace by Richard Paul Evans

Rating: 4 Stars

Eric, who is the picked-on nerd at school, befriends Grace whom he meets in a dumpster. From there, he hides her in his clubhouse. We learn friendship, family, abuse, love and pain. Very well done. Have your tissues ready!

D. Lohrding

Saturdays With Stella by Allison Pittman

Rating: 5 Stars

If we could all just love and accept as dogs do, the world would be perfect. Well, to a dog's eye! This is a great book about loving, living and learning about Jesus through the simple commands a dog obeys. We humans make everything way too complicated!

Deena@ My Bookshelf (thedeena63@hotmail.com)

The Christmas Sweater by Glenn Beck

Rating: 4 Stars

This reminds me THE CHRISTMAS STORY and THE CHRISTMAS SHOES, with lots of heart and some humor mixed in.

Gail

As Eagles by Alison Winfree Pickrell

Rating: 4 Stars

A touching story of friendship and courage evolves as connections are formed between an abandoned child, an agoraphobic widow, and a mentally handicapped neighbor.
This short novel is well plotted, highly engaging, and has a strong spiritual message.

Nici

Let Them Eat Fruitcake by Melody Carlson

Rating: 4 Stars

This book reminds me that no matter what difficulties you are experiencing, God is always here for us and always in control. What a great read! This book will surely get you into the holiday spirit.
