Healing Stones by Nancy Rue

Rating: 4 Stars

This story is deals with guilt, forgiveness, and healing. It is an entertaining read and a free therapy session wrapped up in one package.

A Finger in the Water by Lee Schulstad

Rating: 4 Stars

I had the great pleasure of reading this book just after it was released a month or so ago. I was fascinated by the concept of what would happen if an angel fell to earth, was nearly run over by some woman trying to escape her "not so terrible" life, and was invited to go along on the ride because she thought he was some kind of monk. Would she fall in love with him anyway? Would he fall in love with her? Can Angels fall in love? Is this the true definition of unrequited love? These were certainly not concepts I have ever thought about before reading this book, but I certainly have since. I love that this is about real beings (whether Angelic or not) and what they do when faced with looking within to make some tough decisions about what they want and what they are willing to do to get it. Whether you are a spiritual person or just like the idea of an unusual plot line, this is a great book to read. It's fun, well written and definitely pushes you to finding out what will happen at the end. I wanted to cheat but I didn't. I was sad when it was over but I get the feeling this author will be writing something else soon equally provocative. Great first book!!!

Heaven and Hell by Kenneth Zeigler

Rating: 5 Stars

I had a hard time putting this book down. It gave a biblical glimpse of what it will be like to enter Heaven and, unfortunately, hell also.

At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon

Rating: 5 Stars

I am reading this for the second time and loving re-visiting all of the folks of Mitford. The relaxation of this read is a must for all! Take me away, Mitford.....

LMN

March by Geraldine Brooks

Rating: 5 Stars

An amazing book that deserved all the accolades and prizes.

Doesn't She Look Natural? by Angela Hunt

Rating: 4 Stars

This book started out slowly for me, but got better toward the end. I like the subject matter the author chose. Death and the funeral business is a very important part of our culture and our faith. It's nice to see it addressed and in a way that ties in our faith.

The Confident Woman by Joyce Meyer

Rating: 5 Stars

A great to-the-point book that makes you wonder what made you think you weren't confident in the first place. She spells it out so simply.

A Garden of Friends by Penny Pierce Rose

Rating: 5 Stars

Our Women's Book Discussion Group is currently reading A GARDEN OF FRIENDS. We alternate between Christian fiction and non-fiction. This non-fiction title is a great companion to the fiction title that we read last month, THE YADA YADA PRAYER GROUP. Friendship is such a precious gift that God gives to women, and if we cultivate those friendships like flowers in our garden, nurturing the different needs of each one, they will bloom and last for years. The different flowers (friends) provide a variety of color, shape, and aroma in our lives. As I've read the book, I have been awestruck by how easily I've seen my friends in the different flowers that the author describes by their characteristics. I highly recommend this easily read title.

Reformed Dogmatics, Vol.1: Prolegomena by Herman Bavinck

Rating: 5 Stars

A worthy shelf companion to A. W. Brakel.

Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts

Best book I have read!

When We All Get To Heaven by JMS Bell

Rating: 5 Stars

A, fast-reading, Christian love story that satisfies the reader's thirst for drama, romance, laughter, tears, suspense and inspiration. Your attention is held from start to finish with the story of a young woman's fall from grace and her restoration at the feet of Jesus. Well worth the read.

Talk of the Town by Lisa Wingate

Rating: 4 Stars

As always, Lisa Wingate's books are so easy to just fall into. You get to know and love the characters, and the town featured becomes a place you'd like to visit.

I found myself laughing so hard that I was crying in several parts of this book. But, there were also some deep parts, where I was really moved.

Ms. Wingate is an excellent author, and I highly recommend everything she's written!

The Beautiful Fight by Gary Thomas

Rating: 4 Stars

I found out about this book through the Faithful Reader website, and am so glad I did! I got my library to order a copy.

I was seeking to know God better, and I got that and more from this book. The writing is deep, but if you stick with it, you can really learn a lot.

The best thing I learned from this book was that Jesus still is the reigning Lord of this planet --- He didn't go up to heaven, and leave us to fend for ourselves. He's still actively working in this world!

Also, I liked that Mr. Thomas encourages the readers to live their faith "out loud". :-)

Highly recommended!
