THE DA VINCI CODE Author Roundtable
FaithfulReader.com has brought together 11 authors who have all written books in response to Dan Brown's controversial 2003 novel, THE DA VINCI CODE. Richard Abanes, Darrell L. Bock, Dan Burstein, James L. Garlow, Peter Jones, Steve Kellmeyer, Erwin W. Lutzer, Sandra Miesel, Carl E. Olson, Amy Welborn and Ben Witherington III discuss why they believe so many people have accepted this fictional thriller as fact. They also address some of the claims Brown makes in the book about Christianity and explain the potential damage that his conclusions could inflict on a person's faith.
Steve Kellmeyer

Steve Kellmeyer has an MA in theology from Franciscan University, Steubenville, OH and an MA in post-Enlightenment European history from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. He also did doctoral course work in the history of science and technology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He has written nearly two dozen articles for various Christian publications on evangelization and catechesis, and has two previous books to his credit: BIBLE BASICS, a Scriptural defense of the Catholic Faith, and SEX AND THE SACRED CITY, a description of how our sexuality helps us image God. Erwin W. Lutzer

Sandra Miesel

Sandra Miesel holds masters' degrees in biochemistry and medieval history from the University of Illinois. Since 1983, she has written hundreds of articles for the Catholic press, chiefly on history, art and hagiography. She regularly appears in Crisis magazine and is a columnist for the diocesan paper of Norwich, Connecticut. Sandra has spoken at religious and academic conferences, appeared on EWTN, and given numerous radio interviews. Outside the Catholic sphere, she has also written, analyzed and edited fiction. Sandra and her husband John have raised three children.

Carl E. Olson

Carl E. Olson, the co-author of THE DA VINCI HOAX: Exposing the Errors in The Da Vinci Code (Ignatius), has written for First Things, This Rock, Envoy, Crisis, Our Sunday, Visitor, National Review Online, and National Catholic Register. His bestselling book, WILL CATHOLIC BE "LEFT BEHIND"? A Catholic Critique of the Rapture and Today's Prophecy Preachers (Ignatius, 2003), was named by the Associated Press as one of the best religious titles of 2003 and was praised by a number of Catholic leaders, including Francis Cardinal George.
Raised in a Fundamentalist Protestant home, Carl attended an Evangelical Bible college; he and his wife, Heather, entered the Catholic Church in 1997. Carl has a Masters in Theological Studies from the University of Dallas.

Amy Welborn

Amy Welborn is the author of DE-CODING DA VINCI: The Fact Behind the Fiction of the Da Vinci Code. She is also the author of several other books, including THE LOYOLA KIDS' BOOK OF SAINTS (Loyola), the "Prove It!" series of apologetics for youth (OSV), and the forthcoming, THE WORDS WE PRAY: Discovering the Richness of Traditional Cathoic Prayer (Loyola, Fall 2004).
She holds an MA in Church History from Vanderbilt University.

Ben Witherington III

Ben Witherington III is a respected author and New Testament scholar. He has published 16 books and six commentaries, including THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES (1997), THE JESUS QUEST (1995), THE PAUL QUEST (1999) and THE GOSPEL CODE (Summer 2004). THE JESUS QUEST was selected as the top biblical studies book of 1995 by Christianity Today and the Academy of Parish Clergy. In 1999 he again won the Christianity Today book award, this time for THE PAUL QUEST: A Study of The Apostle from Tarsus.
Dr. Witherington, who has led numerous study tours through the lands of the Bible, is known for bringing the text to life through incisive historical and cultural analysis. Dr. Witherington is a John Wesley Fellow for Life, a research fellow at Cambridge University and a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Society of Biblical Literature, Society for the Study of the New Testament and the Institute for Biblical Research.
Dr. Witherington, his wife, Ann, and two children reside in Lexington, Kentucky.
